Electronic Trade Documents Act 2023
(New)
The Electronic Trade Documents Act 2023 is intended to put electronic trade documents on the same legal footing as paper documents, removing paperwork and bureaucracy. This will reduce the environmental impact of paper and courier emissions while raising security and compliance of trade by increasing traceability of document trails. The Act modernises the Bills of Exchange Act 1882 and the Carriage of Goods by Sea Act 1992, by allowing for electronic signatures.
For more information, see News Analysis: Electronic Trade Documents Act—Paper to Data.
The Act came into effect on 20 September 2023.
