The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) and its members have reported unfair practices by leading video game companies, which include Fortnite, EA Sports FC 24, Minecraft and Clash of Clans, to the European Commission and the European Network of Consumer Authorities. The BEUC's analysis revealed that video game companies use deceptive design practices to manipulate consumers, especially children, into making unintended in-game purchases; consumers were not shown the true cost of digital items; unfair terms that benefitted developers denied consumers their rights when using premium in-game currencies and claims that gamers preferred in-game premium currencies were wrong.
