Is there a difference between the day on which service is actually effected on the defendant and the day on which service is deemed to have occurred?

The key dates to consider for the purposes of service differ depending on whether acting for the claimant or the defendant:

    defendant—the deemed date of service as set out in CPR 6.14

What does Deemed service mean?

This applies where a claim form is served within the UK in accordance with cpr 6. The claim form is deemed served on the second business day after completion of the relevant step under rule 7.5(1). It is used to determine the timetable for the proceedings.
