Road to COP26—decarbonising transport

In light of current policy and funding measures, can the UK achieve its target of zero new polluting vehicles by 2030, and can it inspire other countries to do the same?

In its role as president of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26), the UK has pledged to show. One of its key commitments in this regard is ending the sale of new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars by 2030, putting it 'on course to be the fastest G7 country to decarbonise cars and vans'. The ban on new polluting cars is also supported by measures to promote greater uptake in electric vehicles and to reduce congestion. But with transport responsible for the largest share of domestic emissions, will this be enough to decarbonise the sector in line with the UK's net zero target?
