Interim rent

An application for interim rent can be made if the parties have served notice under either section 25 or section 26 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 (LTA 1954). An interim rent is a rent payable while the tenancy continues, until a new tenancy takes effect.

When is it payable from?

Interim rent is payable from the 'appropriate date' which is either:

  1. •

    the earliest date of termination that could have been specified in the landlord’s section 25 notice, or

  2. •

    the earliest date for commencement of the new tenancy that could have been specified in the tenant’s section 26 request
