ChatGPT, GPT-4, Bard, suddenly AI chatbots are all we talk about. But what do they mean for in-house legal teams? What should General Counsel be thinking about when it comes to both potential risks and opportunities? We will be joined by a panel of GCs to share their thoughts on this rapidly emerging area of technology.

James Harper 

Head of Legal, Global Nexis Solutions, UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥

James serves as the global Head of Legal for the Global Nexis Solutions business, a division of UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ which supplies regulatory and business information, analytics and tools which help professional customers make better decisions, increase productivity and improve client service.

James joined UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ in 2012 as its UK General Counsel and was promoted to its board 2 years later, together with leading the legal function for UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ South Africa and for regulatory media organisation MLex.

Before taking on his current role, James undertook a 4 year stint in a front-line operational business team, before returning to legal as Director, Global Legal, working on a number of projects to enhance the coordination, efficiency and development of the global legal function, as well providing day-to-day legal support to the UK business.  

In line with a personal passion for access to justice, James also leads UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥â€™s work in the UK on advancing the Rule of Law, with a focus on supporting digitisation in the free legal advice community.  This has included supporting on a tool which was shortlisted for the Law Society’s Excellence Awards.  James also heads up the UK CSR programme, encouraging employee volunteering and giving, making a positive impact on society and the communities around us.  

Harry Borovick 

General Counsel, Luminance  

As General Counsel of Luminance, Harry leads the global legal and CoSec functions. Outside of his role at Luminance, Harry is an External Lecturer in Legal Technology at Queen Mary University of London, a Visiting Lecturer at The University of Law, a Visiting Scholar at the University of Edinburgh as well as being as a member of the Insights Panel at The Law Society. Harry also sits as a Trustee of the charities M7 Education and Models for Heroes. 

Alison Rees-Blanchard

Practice Support Lawyer, TMT, UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥ UK 

Alison trained at Pinsent Masons, qualifying in 2004, where she worked in their Technology team advising major retail and commercial sector companies on a diverse range of matters dealing with contentious and non-contentious IP, IT, Outsourcing, Information Law and Commercial issues. 

After six years she moved in-house to work for Ericsson Television Limited, a subsidiary of Ericsson. As Senior Group Legal Counsel she worked with Ericsson’s multimedia business unit advising on legal issues arising in relation to its content management and delivery solutions and compression products. She advised product development, delivery and sales units (and global legal teams) on the practical and legal implications of Ericsson’s new technologies, advising on issues such as cloud service delivery, digital rights management, content delivery management, cyber security and internet of things. 

She currently works for UUÂãÁÄÖ±²¥, managing content within the TMT module, and has developed, authored and co-authored their content on Artificial Intelligence. She is also a member of the Society for Computers and Law’s AI Group Committee, and has worked with them on a project to draft contractual clauses for AI contracts (recently released for consultation) and will be speaking at their Annual AI conference later this month.
