A Franco-British or British couple living in France or in the UK can file for a divorce procedure in either country, early legal advice shall be obtained as both countries have different legal and practical approach for procedure.

Contrary to the UK, France applies a system of 'property regimes' (régimes matrimoniaux) which impacts how the couple hold their assets through their marriage and how their assets are divided in case of divorce.

These regimes apply if the couple do not mutually consent to how the assets
